Last Sunday, we considered the question posed at the end of Revelation 6: “Who can stand?” Revelation 7 provides the answer. Those who belong to the Lamb can stand because they have been sealed and gathered by God. They are not forgotten, hidden, or abandoned. They belong to Him.

This Sunday, we will continue in Revelation 7 and examine verses 9–17. In this passage, John sees “a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages,” standing before the throne and the Lamb (Rev. 7:9). They are clothed in white robes. They cry out in a loud voice. They worship. And then we are assured of this promise: “the Lamb in the midst of the throne will be their shepherd” (Rev. 7:17).

The One who was slain for His people is the One who leads His people. The One who shed His blood to cleanse them is the One who “will guide them to springs of living water” (Rev. 7:17). The One who conquered by suffering is the One who will shelter them forever. And God Himself “will wipe away every tear from their eyes” (Rev. 7:17).

Revelation does not minimize the suffering of God’s people. It does not pretend that life under the curse and in this world is easy. But it does show us where history is headed. It reveals the destiny of all who belong to Jesus Christ. The Lamb will bring His people home, and when He does, hunger, thirst, scorching heat, sorrow, and death will not have the final word.

So come this Sunday ready to be encouraged. Come ready to worship. Come ready to see that the Lamb who saves you is also the Shepherd who will keep you, lead you, satisfy you, and bring you safely into the presence of God.

If you are weary, Revelation 7 is for you. If you are grieving, Revelation 7 is for you. If you are anxious about the future, Revelation 7 is for you.

If you belong to the Lamb, your future is not uncertain. Your Shepherd is on the throne.

I look forward to worshiping with you this Sunday.

Grace and peace,
Pastor Keith
